During a period of very low water, caused by the failure of the Rockford Beach dam, we found an excellent oppertunity to build the largest dock on the Big River. Never timid when begining a project we set out to build a 20' by 20' concrete dock. Since the forms couldn't by braced from the water side, steel airplane cable was used to hold the forms together from the inside. The form reached 5' at it's highest and was so irregular that we didn't even try to provide an accurate estimate of concrete but insted ordered 6 yards. I am still harrased today about my estimating abilities since the final total was 32 yards.
